Head: Products and Services Sourcing

  • My team deal with any 3rd party supplier requirements that do not involve IT direct spend. 
  • We focus on 5 main categories, CRES, Operations, Human Resources, Marketing and Professional Fees.
  • I am also responsible for the delivery into Absa Africa, the Top 20 Supplier Programme, Operational Sourcing (this is low risk / low value requirements across the IT and Products and Services) and Sourcing management of strategic projects such as Mergers and Acquisitions.

Head: Technology Sourcing

  • My team deals with any third party spend which involves IT direct spend.
  • Our main focus is to ensure that we contract specific supplier at the best price, best product and service over a period of time.
  • We focus on 4 main categories, Hardware, Software, Telecommunications and Managed Services
  • I also assist with the annual Make a Difference project which assists people in the rural communities to build houses through sponsorships from our suppliers.

The CAO OPS team consists of five work streams that support CRES and Group Sourcing with systems, MI, projects and processes.

The five teams are:

Alan Hargroves

Head: CAO Supply Chain Management

  • Supply Chain Managements' (SCM) role within Group Sourcing is to identify opportunities for process improvement. To this end we collaborate with our third party suppliers and internal customers to fully understand the end – to – end supply chain process.
  • We adopt varying business change methodologies, with increased focus on Lean Six Sigma and Six Sigma, to achieve sustainable process improvement.
  • Through this increased efficiency, we drive costs out of the supply chain, and eliminate profit leaks, whilst also assisting our suppliers in improving their cost models to other customers.

Ian Horn

Sourcing Manager responsible for both Human Resources & Marketing. 

  • It primarily involves Recruitment and Training agreements and Creative and Media agreements for the Absa / Barclays Group.
  • I report directly through to the Head of Products and Services Sourcing on a Group-wide basis on Sourcing initiatives (approximately R61-104m in value)
  • Lead the development and execution of commercial solutions/initiatives targeted at realizing sustainable significant value for Group whilst creating alignment with the service, category, supplier strategies and internal/external stakeholders

Jacoba Schutte

Sourcing Manager for Professional Services and Acting Manager for the Operational Sourcing team

  • Manage category strategies for the commodities within the profees category which includes: Consulting Services, Legal Services, Valuation Services, Credit Data Services, Collections & Recovery Services, Insurance Services, Tax and Subscriptions
  • Drive supplier and channel compliance within the commodities in Profees
  • Manage the Operational Sourcing team to achieve defined targets

Sean Plummer

Sourcing Manager Strategic Projects

    This team is accountable for the following:
  • Strategic projects: initiatives prioritised based on value and risk to the organisation for which the Strategic team has full accountability and responsibility for, reporting directly into the P&S Head of Category regarding the delivery of these initiatives
  • Cross-category sourcing activity: defined as initiatives for which Strategic team has responsibility to, in assisting in the delivery thereof, reporting directly into the P&S Sourcing Managers who are accountable for the delivery of these initiatives
  • Mergers and Acquisitions: this relates to those business which Absa has acquired, where Absa has a joint venture, or any other business defined as an Absa subsidiary or affiliate which is required to conform to Sourcing policies. It is the objective of the this team to define an integration methodology and mange the execution of such a methodology through the accountable teams within Group Sourcing
  • Business Unit Engagement: this includes those business areas within Absa requiring one-point of contact within Group Sourcing to co-ordinate all Sourcing related matters on the business’s behalf

Ben van Zyl

Sourcing Manager of Operations


  • Define and manage category strategies and commercial solutions aligned to business drivers for the commodities within the following areas:
    • Absa Group Operations including Cash, cheques & voucher processing and document management
    • Group Security Services including any security related products or services
    • CRES including Capital projects and any property related products and services
  • Drive Supplier & Channel compliance within the commodities above

Warren van Rooyen

Legal Counsel to the Chief Administration Officer of Absa Bank Limited.


In that capacity I am the Head of and responsible for: the legal teams that work in both the Group Sourcing and CRES business units, and for the legal advice provided to the business units.

Sanash Sewparsad

Senior HR Business Partner for both Sourcing and CRES

Iam responsible for ensuring that workforce plans prepared by Senior Staff and HR Business partners reflects the people strategy needs in the BU's, interpretation of the Reward Strategy in the BUs, reinforces good practise for management of employees, supports the development of people in the business and manages the BU's HR team.

Johan van Staden

Finance Business Partner Group Sourcing

  • The key purpose of the role is to provide effective financial and strategic partnership to Group Sourcing and to proactively manage their cost base and drive a lower cost to income ratio for the Group.
  • The role also entails the evaluation and auditing of all sourcing savings reported to Barclays.

Antony Barker

Head of Governance and Compliance Group Sourcing

  • I drive the Sourcing policy throughout Absa, Absa Africa and the Absa subsidiaries and joint ventures, and ensure that both Sourcing and the Business are abiding by it.
  • I manage the Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment strategy for procurement and track Absa's performance against the scorecard issued by the Department of Trade and Industry.
  • I act as the contact between Group Sourcing and Management Assurance, Internal Audit and External Audit, facilitating audits, the writing of findings and issue assurance. I oversee Sourcing's risk management approach, associated controls and risk reporting.

Ayanda Ntsanga

Sourcing Manager: Africa

  • Responsible for the sourcing activities in the Africa operations, this includes sourcing of Technology, Products and Services
  • Responsible for SSMH compliance within the Africa operations

Nevine Lalloo

Manager - Managed Services

  • IT Managed Services covers the following areas: IT Consultancy, IT Contractors and Outsourcing of IT Services such as Desktop, Print and Voice managed services.

Thomani Lekhade

Group Sourcing Manager: Telecommunication

  • IT Managed Services covers the following areas: IT Consultancy, IT Contractors and Outsourcing of IT Services such as Desktop, Print and Voice managed services.
  • My role is to lead the commercial negotiation of 3rd party expenditure in this space to derive the best possible value for Absa and in so doing, ensure that operational excellence is enhanced within the group.
  •  
  • Manage IT telecommunication department with total budget of R1,5 billion rand
  • Leadership including developing team, ensuring performance management is in place and resource management
  • Championing knowledge sharing across team and Group Sourcing and ensuring Sourcing team continues to develop and consistently implement best in class tools and techniques
  • Delivery of all commercial and contractual elements of major sourcing initiatives up to contract award ensuring all financial, risk, strategic and commercial considerations are optimised.
  • Ensure appropriate engagement of the Legal manager, i.e. manage legal input to meet business and sourcing needs
  • Produce and manage project plans, ensuring delivery of projects to target.
  • Provide expert process, functional and technical administration to stakeholders, developing and documenting new solutions and securing sign-off for new solutions and processes.
